spare the opener.

A door that drifts down or floats up when you pull the release is out of balance, and the opener has been lifting weight it was never designed for. We set the springs on doors in Sheridan Homelands so the door rests wherever you leave it, which spares the motor, the gear and the rail. This page also covers Sheridan Park.

Shop rules

New doors, chosen with you.

  1. We show, then tell. Worn cables, tired springs and misaligned sensors are pointed out on the door itself, so the explanation makes sense.
  2. Clean-up included. Old parts are removed, surfaces wiped and the floor swept before we consider the visit complete.
  3. The right repair for your situation. Some doors deserve a full refresh; others need one part. We help you weigh that against how long you plan to keep the door.

2021 census: what it means at the door

Every square is one home in a hundred.

  • 38 in 100 homes · mixed ages
  • About 38% of homes in Mississauga were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.Where housing ages are mixed, many older houses have already had a newer door and opener fitted, so the door's age and the house's age are not the same thing. The technician reads the door itself, its spring type, tracks and opener, before recommending anything.
  • Single-detached houses make up about 37% of homes in Mississauga (2021 Census).Townhouses built in rows tend to have identical doors from the same builder, so when springs and openers age they do so together along the street. Owners often arrange service for several doors at once, and we can plan a single visit that covers the row.

Answers in plain language

What information or photos help before the visit?

A photograph of the whole door from outside, a close-up of the damaged section, a picture of the manufacturer's label if you can find it, and a shot of the inside of the door showing the hinges, tracks and springs. Add the door's approximate width and height, whether it is insulated, its colour and panel style, and how the damage happened. That set often lets the technician confirm availability before arriving.

Why does the inside knob spin without doing anything?

The knob is meant to grip the square spindle with a set screw, and that screw has loosened or the spindle's flat has worn so the knob no longer bites. Sometimes the spindle itself has sheared inside the door. The technician tightens a fresh set screw onto a proper flat or fits a new spindle of the correct length, and the knob and outside handle move as one again.

What other parts are often replaced with the spring?

The shaft is free during a spring change, which makes it the natural time to renew the centre bearing and end bearings if they grind or wobble. Lift cables that show fraying or rust at the bottom brackets are replaced so the new spring pulls on sound steel, and cracked or worn drums are swapped. On older doors, a corroded centre bracket or loose lag bolts may also be addressed. Each item is shown and explained before it is added.

Only one spring broke. Why replace both?

The two springs are the same age and have stretched the same number of times, so the one still hanging is close behind. There is also a balance reason: a door lifts level only when both sides pull equally, and a new spring beside a worn one lifts its corner first and twists the door. Fitting a matched pair sets both sides the same and avoids a second visit a few months on.
