Springs Openers Doors

Garage Doors in ErindaleOriginal door.
Still worth keeping.

Plenty of houses in Erindale still open the wood or early steel door they were built with, often on extension springs. Those doors deserve a technician who knows them: how to true a sagging section, add safety cables, replace worn pulleys, and bring the hardware up to date without losing the look of the house.

New doors, chosen with you.

  1. We show, then tell. Worn cables, tired springs and misaligned sensors are pointed out on the door itself, so the explanation makes sense.
  2. Clean-up included. Old parts are removed, surfaces wiped and the floor swept before we consider the visit complete.
  3. The right repair for your situation. Some doors deserve a full refresh; others need one part. We help you weigh that against how long you plan to keep the door.

2021 census: what it means at the door

Every square is one home in a hundred.

  • 38 in 100 homes · mixed ages
  • About 38% of homes in Mississauga were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.Where houses span several decades, weatherproofing needs vary: older garages with uneven aprons need thicker bottom seals, newer ones mainly need cracked seal sections replaced. The technician looks at how the door meets the floor and the jambs and fits the seal that actually closes the gap.
  • Single-detached houses make up about 37% of homes in Mississauga (2021 Census).Where most residents live in attached homes, a technician's day includes coordinating with neighbours: parking the van without blocking a shared lane, keeping noisy work to reasonable hours, and finishing a door in one visit so the row is not disrupted twice.

Answers in plain language

Does a wood garage door use the same kind of seal?

Usually not. Wood doors most often carry a flat or angled strip of vinyl or rubber nailed directly to the bottom rail, rather than a profile that slides into a retainer. Replacement means removing the old strip and nails, checking the rail for soft or cupped wood, and fastening a new strip so its lip angles outward and meets the floor along the full width. A retainer can be added to a sound rail if you prefer a channel seal.

The screws spin in their holes. Can the hinge still be fitted securely?

Yes. A stripped hole is common on older steel doors and on wood doors where the timber has softened. The technician either shifts the hinge to fresh metal within the stile, uses a larger self-drilling screw that cuts new threads, or drills through and fits a bolt with a nut and washer or a backer plate on the inside. Any of these gives the new hinge a firmer anchor than the original screws had.

Is cable work different on a door with extension springs?

The idea is the same and the route is different. Instead of winding onto a drum, the cable runs from the bottom bracket up over a pulley at the front of the track, back over a pulley on the spring, and to an adjusting clip. The technician relaxes the springs by opening and clamping the door, replaces worn pulleys along with the cable, sets both clips the same, and confirms a containment cable runs through each spring.

Only one spring broke. Why replace both?

The two springs are the same age and have stretched the same number of times, so the one still hanging is close behind. There is also a balance reason: a door lifts level only when both sides pull equally, and a new spring beside a worn one lifts its corner first and twists the door. Fitting a matched pair sets both sides the same and avoids a second visit a few months on.
